Martek reaps regulatory omega-3 benefits
DHA omega-3 is one of the few ingredients to benefit from the European Union nutrition and health claims process so far, and Martek's VP of regulatory affairs, Rodney Gray, looks at developments in other regulatory changes that have affected the sector.

The whole DHA sector is gaining from a European Commission-approved statement regarding the omega-3 form and infant eye and brain health.

It is a welcome development for an industry that took a body blow when one of the first European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) article 14 children’s health claim opinions ruled against a similar claim submitted by Martek back in September, 2008.

Gray tells Shane Starling of that development and highlights other regulatory changes that have affected the sector.
