There are just two weeks remaining until hundreds of top academics and business leaders from the ever-more connected worlds of probiotics, prebiotics and the microbiome come together at the IPA World Congress + Probiota 2018 in Barcelona. Will you be joining us in Barcelona?

Organised by the publishers of NutraIngredients, in partnership with the International Probiotics Association (IPA), the IPA World Congress + Probiota 2018 will combine the latest insights from science, regulation and business to provide delegates with the ultimate event to bridge the gap between the worlds of business and scientific research.

The three day festival of science and business will run between February 7 – 9th in Barcelona, Spain, where it will explore the frontier of prebiotic, probiotic and microbiome science, and how that is applied in the commercial world for food and nutraceutical players everywhere. The program will see a mix of cutting edge microbiome research, probiotic and prebiotic clinical data, consumer trends and innovation insights, as top global experts come together to share ideas and enhance their networks.

With 300 industry and research leaders already expected, and just two weeks before the event kicks off, it's still not too late to get involved.

On the agenda this year are engaging sessions on modulating the microbiome for sports performance, consumer understanding of pre- and probiotics, the importance of the microbiota in the first 1000 days of life, plus sessions looking at the latest microbiome start-up trailblazers and targeting diseases through the microbiome.

In addition, don’t miss key updates from the IPA and dynamic panel discussions will look at regulatory challenges in the microbiome space and how personalised nutrition and wearable devices are starting to alter the direction of research methodologies and business plans.

The Scientific Frontiers sessions also offer a chance for researchers to present new findings and interesting early stage work on stage or in poster form. After months of searching, and sifting through abstracts, last week we announced the three winners of the Probiota Scientific Frontiers sessions - as selected by the Probiota Scientific Committee.

The three winning abstracts will now be presented on stage to delegates in a special session hosted by NutraIngredients Science Editor, Will Chu, at the congress, while a further group of selected abstracts will be presented as posters as part of the Probiota Scientific Frontiers: Poster Sessions.

Our top three are:

  • Anna Happel, University of Cape Town
Presenting on: Vaginal versus commercially available probiotic Lactobacillus spp. for vaginal health
  • Serge Gouin, Université de Montréal
Presenting on: Probiotic Regimen for Outpatient Gastroenteritis – Utility of Treatment (PROGUT) Study: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial
  • Vasiliki Kachrimanidou, University of Reading
Presenting on: An in-vitro evaluation of different carbohydrates on the selective fermentation of Lactobacillus rhamnosus ATCC 53103
